Keeping the coil level walk along slowly waving the coil from side to side. Deeper targets will be detected if you wave the coil slowly. The search pattern of most coils is cone shaped so an eight inch diameter search area on the surface will only be two inches at ten inches down. A few machines, the MineLab excalibur for instance has a D shaped pattern so will cover a larger area. Go over the area removing the junk then repeat the search for targets that the junk was masking. In a new area dig for all targets without using any discrimination. Remove all the junk and then go over again. In this way you won’t miss targets by using discrimination too early. The Garrett Ace 250 is a good machine for the price for an entry level machine. It is light weight and easy to set up so is suitable for a novice. The machine can often be bought with lots of accessories such as a trowel, headphones and headphone pouch.The depth sensitivity is not great, it will detect coins at around 4-6″ and the sensitivity is sometimes too high so it sees a lot of trash, especially aluminium, so you may need to turn the sensitivity down which will also decrease the depth.Garrett Ace 250 Metal Detector….
